We went to Gatlinburg, TN for vacation last week. We had a great time! This was Ellis' first time to G'burg. She seemed to like it. We didn't want to do the tourist trap stuff, so we spent a lot of time in the mountains. We visited Cades Cove, Clingman's Dome, and Newfound Gap to name a few. We really enjoyed Clingman's Dome. It's the highest point in the Smoky Mountains ( I think). I was too busy trying to keep Ellis from falling to pay attention to the sign.
The highlight of our trip was going to the Ripley's Aquarium. It was her first time to see any aquarium besides the occasional trip to Pet Depot or the lobster tank at Red Lobster, so she was very excited! She's loves Disney's Finding Nemo right now, so the entire time we looked for the characters in the movie.
Ellis had tubes put in her ears March 2007, so we didn't expose her to the water that much for fear that she would get water in her ears. The doctor said it would be fine, but still...I didn't want her ears to get infected. Since her surgery she's been fine, so we let her swim on vacation with no earplugs. We quickly found out that she absolutely loves to swim and by the 2nd time in the pool she was swimming independently. She complained a little about having water in her ears, and she cried several times during the night but nothing major.
On the last day of our vacation we had a little drama. We had all gone out that morning for breakfast and when my brother returned to the condo he noticed that the hallway going into our condo was wet. When he looked down at the floor there was water coming from underneath the door. He quickly rushed in to see the washing machine had either run over or the pipe on the back had broken. Water was all over the place. The kitchen, dining room, and the master bathroom were flooded, and parts of the living room and the bedroom were starting to get wet. My brother called the desk and they sent up some maids to see about the problem. To make a long story short, we ended up having to move to a different room.
